What does it mean when judge is going to make child custody decision by mail?

I have been going to court and fighting for custody with my ex wife over my son for child custody. My son has been failing grades for quite sometime and judge has been giving her chance after chance to get him to improve. So at our last court date today the judge tore into my exwife about my son but said the decision will be mailed. This is is weird unless he didnt want a big scene in court. Has this ever happened to anyone. What do you think. California

Yeah, they have to write every thing out and decide on each thing you were fighting over so they will mail the results. You can also call the courts every few days and ask if there was a decision and then you can go pick it up.
